About the artist

I’m Daria Platova, the contemporary ceramic artist and heart and soul of YourCeramics Studio. I personally handcraft each item using a combination of a pottery wheel and hand sculpting.

Every ceramic item I create is a testament to the pacification, uniqueness, sensitivity, and energy of nature. Just like the diverse and singular aspects of the natural environment, each of my pieces is one-of-a-kind.

Artist Statement

For over 30 years, I lived in towering cities, surrounded by concrete and far from nature. The less I encountered the natural world, the more I feared it. In a world where screens dominate our attention, I am becoming increasingly detached from nature. I lived in concrete cities, spent hours in virtual spaces, and lost touch with the physical world that we exploit and deplete for our own gain.
Then I moved to a village. At first, it felt unsettling, but curiosity took over. Watching birds nest outside my window, feeling the wind through wild grasses, and following the paths of ants, I stopped avoiding nature and started appreciating it. The fresh air, the open sky, the sense of connection—it changed me.
I understood that, surrounded by artificial environments, I forgot the textures, rhythms, and quiet presence of nature. This growing disconnect is at the core of my work.

Through ceramics, I bring the tactile and tangible back into focus. Hand-shaped clay retains the imprint of touch—something real in an increasingly digital world. I want my pieces to remind people that they are not separate from nature but an integral part of it.

My pieces stem from my fascination with organic forms that flow and ripple—seaweed drifting in currents, the delicate frills of chanterelle mushrooms, the soft curves of flower petals. I find these forms very touching, vulnerable, and at the same time elegant.
I use a combined technique; the base is made on a wheel, and the petals are added by hand. It is a slow, intuitive process, I do not know in advance what kind of curve each petal will have. I only know the image and the feeling that I want to convey to the viewer.
I create moments. A pause. A reminder. A reconnection to the world we are still a part of—if only we choose to return.
